Meal Preparation and Grocery Shopping

A big part of everyday living is eating and eating well!

St Jude’s Disability Support Services assist clients in a variety of ways to ensure they are supported in the preparation of their daily meals.

This starts from meal planning which takes into account client needs and goals. We get to know our clients and their preferences to ensure their daily meals are right for them.

Our Support Workers can also assist clients by taking them grocery shopping or doing this on their behalf. This includes transportation and can be combined with other activities when out in the community.

We also support clients to build their skills in meal preparation, whether that means helping prepare and to cook a variety of exciting meals. Clients often have weekly meal plans and with more supervision, clients grow more independent as they become more skilled and learn how to make their favorite meals.

Some clients may also require supervision and support when it comes to eating and drinking, all of which our Support Workers provide.

Gardening Services

For clients with outdoor living areas, Support Workers can also assist with ongoing maintenance or larger gardening services.

We work with clients to build their skills surrounding gardening and yard maintenance and even arrange fun outdoor activities such as planting and working in community and vegetable gardens.

St Jude’s Disability Support Services also employ full time gardeners, for homes which require a professional to carry out more complex tasks.

Many clients also have learned to utilize public transport, under the supervision of Support Workers, which allows them to more independently access the community and increase their inclusion and participation in the local area.
